About
I'm a PhD student in Politics at the New School for Social Research. My current research explores how the term Indigenous Peoples is created at the international level, reinforced in the transnational space, and used in local politics by native communities. My work centers on the categorization by the U.S. Census of indigenous immigrants, as Latin American Indians and its implications for understandings of race/ethnicity and transnational affiliation.
I also follow work on the anthropology of the senses and work on the politics of smell, with particular interest in the concepts of the "nasty," the "fancy," and connoisseurship.
I am a cheese judge. I teach and research on the politics of cheese in North America and blog at http://www.lactography.com
I am the author of Indigenous Routes: A Framework for Understanding Indigenous Migration (Geneva: International Organization for Migration 2008).
